Appointment Today

I haven't written much - mostly because for now, every entry will sound the same.

Got up to pee several times in the evening, making sleep oh so elusive.

Woke up around 5 am feeling like I might die. Drank a glass of milk in hopes of calming my stomach enough to go back to sleep for a few hours.

Get back up for work and sit in front of my computer partially dazed, trying to figure out what to eat. Most things make me feel more nauseous at the thought of them, so the main staples have been Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches, and cottage cheese (either with fruit, or salt pepper and hot sauce).

I am no longer in love with hamburgers, which may have something to do with getting a whiff of raw ground beef when Jaycel made them last week.

I haven't been cooking, mostly due to the aforementioned "can't stand the smell of raw meat" fun.

Other than the nausea, I feel pretty good. I haven't really gained weight, at least according to the scale. I can tell when I put certain clothing on that I have changed shape, but the scale isn't moving much.

Today is my first appointment since 5 weeks. Today they will pull out the doppler and will try to listen to the heartbeat. I am looking forward to it since the pregnancy has been pretty surreal so far.

We talk about it like its real - make plans like there will be another person living here eventually, but when nausea is the only sign that there is someONE growing inside you, it doesn't quite feel real yet.

So an update you will all get...later this evening.

Listening to: Riga Girls by The Weepies
Currently Eating: nothing at the moment...there is an empty bowl of pears and cottage cheese next to me
Eagerly Awaiting: this afternoon's appointment

Nyquil, I Miss You

Since Tuesday I have had a horrible cold/flu thing.

I hate having a cold normally. I hate the the stuffy hurting head. I hate not being able to breathe.

But now I can add a hate to the list. I HATE not being able to have Nyquil.

Usually, I rely heavily on its sweet syrupy goodness to knock me out at night, or even help me sleep during the day. And since the invention of Dayquil, I usually spend the entire duration of a cold "under the influence".

This being the first time in a long time I have fought the cold completely au naturel, I am finding that, more than sushi, coffee and wine combined, I am sorely missing my Nyquil.

Today has been the first day of feeling quite a bit better, so at least it seems to be running its course and a good pace.

Also, I still want to eat hamburgers 24/7. I have decided that the next shopping excursion may involve purchasing ground beef and all the fixings for a proper at home burger - somehow that feels much healthier than Checkers, Wendy's and all those other places.

Currently Eating: Cottage Cheese w/Salt, Pepper, Lemon, and Srirachi Hot Sauce.

Blurg

Over the past several days, I have had oh-so-fun bouts of nausea. Nothing severe, just uncomfortable enough to be an annoyance and make eating slightly less enjoyable.

Last night, or more accurately 3 o'clock this morning, I was awakened by a more than uncomfortable queasiness. I could no longer lay down without feeling like I was going to be truly sick, so I dragged myself out to the living room. I weakly grabbed a ginger ale and pack of saltines, huddled under a blanket on the couch, and put in a DVD hoping that after a light snack the stomach would settle and I could go back to bed.

Three hours and a third of the second season of Arrested Development later, I finally managed to be at a point where the level of tired outweighed the level of nausea and crawled back in bed.

An hour and a half later, I woke again and sat in front of my computer finishing the ginger ale from last night, still nauseous and not wanting to eat anything.

Fortunately, Jaycel made me eggs and toast (which smelled awful - through no fault of his own) which I choked down, thinking "can't starve the baby" every time I wanted to throw the plate out of my sight.

The joys of eating.

Hopefully my grilled cheese and tomato soup will be slightly less repulsive.

Heroes

If I were a superhuman being, my current superpower would be a heightened sense of smell.

Last night J was cleaning out the fridge. There was a pot of leftover short ribs that weren't terribly old, but that we knew we weren't going to eat. He placed it on the stove so the fats and such would liquefy, making it easier to dispose of.

Normally, I love when the house fills with the smell of yummy meaty goodness. Last night, I never thought anything smelled so horrid. I immediately felt sick to my stomach and tried to find a room were the smell hadn't overtaken the air. I laid in my bed, blanket over my nose and mouth, trying to filter out the smell.

It was awful.

So far today, no terrible nose induced incidents. Grilled cheese and tomato bisque are apparently on the safe list.

Wisdom

I told my boss yesterday afternoon that I am pregnant.

Yes, I know, it's early, but I talk to him ALL the time, and he had already noticed that I was somehow "different" lately, so it just seemed like the easier thing to do.

The great thing is that his wife just recently gave birth to their second kid. So he's an expert on this having kids business.

His first (of what I am sure will be many) words of wisdom were:

"It's (having kids) all rainbows and gumdrops. But the gumdrops are made of spit up and the rainbows are the toxic glow of the diaper genie pail...but with the toxic fumes it all SEEMS like gumdrops and rainbows. That, and the lack of sleep."

Probably my favorite description of life with kids so far.

Also, his initial response to the words, "I'm pregnant" was "BABIES!!!" which made me think of this:

And so it begins

Aside for the occasional dead-tiredness and sore ladies, I have been feeling pretty good.

Until today.

I have been nauseous allll day. Not hugging the toilet nauseous, more I don't want to eat nauseous. So I am been force feeding myself (small developing brain needs proten) and dealing with the discomfort throughout the day.

Blech.

Mmmmmm

I don't know if it is too early on to actually have cravings, but tonight I wanted a burger something fierce.

And so through the Checkers drive-thru we went. And it was the most delicious burger ever.

I think that when nasty fast food that you never eat tastes THAT amazing, it must be a craving.
